Speaking after the security cabinet approved the plan on Friday, Netanyahu said he had “no choice” but to finish the mission and seize Gaza City. “Our goal is clear – defeat Hamas and bring our hostages home,” he stated.
According to Israel Defense Forces sources, the Gaza operation is the only realistic way to secure the release of hostages taken from Israel. They stressed that Hamas has refused to disarm or release captives, leaving military action as the only viable path.
Netanyahu’s office confirmed he spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump about plans to take control of Hamas’s last strongholds in Gaza. These areas, located in Gaza City and surrounding districts, remain heavily fortified by the terrorist group.
While the exact timing of the offensive is not yet public, IDF officials say preparations are underway, and the mission will be carried out with precision to protect Israeli forces and minimize harm to civilians.
At the same time, the U.N. Security Council heard new calls for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid to reach Gaza. Israel maintains that the fastest way to end the conflict is to dismantle Hamas completely, ensuring lasting security for both Israelis and Palestinians.
