Once known for years of brutal suppression, including beheadings and indiscriminate killings of civilians, Syrian government forces are now redeploying under the guise of "ceasefire enforcement" near Sweida. These are the same units whose war crimes during the height of the Syrian civil war left thousands dead and entire communities displaced. Their return to power, following the weakening of Bashar al-Assad’s grip, represents a new wave of terror, particularly directed at the Druze population and the Bedouin tribes.
Footage emerging online shows clear signs of state-sponsored propaganda: staged photos of Syrian troops near checkpoints, while behind the scenes, entire neighborhoods are being locked down and families forcibly evacuated. These measures, far from restoring order, are part of a systematic campaign of control and intimidation.
What is worse, many in the international community remain silent—or worse, complicit—spinning false narratives and blaming Israel for the instability in the region. While these propaganda machines hum loudly in capitals across the world, one fact remains unshakable: Israel is the only country in the Middle East that stands for human rights, religious freedom, and the protection of civilians.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), long committed to minimizing civilian harm—even at great risk to its own personnel—has found itself once again in a difficult position. With no other choice but to act, the IDF is monitoring the situation closely, especially as Syrian regime militias—backed by foreign influence, including strong indications of Turkish support—encroach closer to the Israeli border and pose a direct threat not only to Israeli sovereignty but also to the safety of vulnerable civilian populations.
It is clear that this is not just a local flare-up. It is a broader campaign to suffocate minority groups, destabilize Israel’s borders, and rewrite the narrative of who is the aggressor and who is the protector.
In this climate of deceit and violence, Israel remains a beacon of democratic values, standing not only in defense of its own people but also for the protection of innocent lives—Druze, Bedouin, and others—who have nowhere else to turn.
As the situation continues to unfold, the world must see through the orchestrated lies and recognize the painful truth: the Syrian regime’s crimes are not relics of the past—they are happening again, right now. And Israel may be the only force with both the will and the moral clarity to respond.
