The violence worsened after Syrian regime troops, backed by Turkey and Arab states, entered the region to support Bedouin militias.

Instead of stopping the violence, Turkey and 10 Arab nations blamed Israel for airstrikes meant to stop the attacks on Druze villages. Their joint statement showed support for Syria’s new regime but ignored the deaths of hundreds of innocent people.

Many of the fighters attacking Sweida are believed to be radical groups supported by Turkey, with links to extremist organizations. Armed tribes from Hama, Deir ez-Zor, and even Iraq have arrived to help Bedouin forces, putting Druze towns under siege.

Shocking images on social media show burning homes and bodies in the streets. Locals fear a campaign of ethnic cleansing, as Druze people are targeted simply for their faith.

In response, Israeli forces launched airstrikes on Syrian military targets near Damascus and Sweida on July 16. At the same time, hundreds of Israeli Druze crossed into Syria through the Golan Heights to help protect their people.

While Turkey and Arab leaders back Syria’s new regime—made up of violent militias—Israel remains the only country defending minorities and human rights in the region.

Without international help, Druze leaders warn that Sweida could soon face a massacre. As the world looks away, Israel continues to take action to save lives.
