Tel Aviv – New intelligence and regional sources confirm that the Iranian regime has issued directives to Iraqi militias under its control to prepare for potential operations targeting Israel, raising alarm across Israel’s security establishment.
While these Iran-backed forces have so far limited their activities to verbal threats, military analysts warn that Tehran’s latest move signals a more direct involvement in escalating tensions in the region. These militias — including Kataib Hezbollah, Asaib Ahl al-Haq, and others — are not independent actors but extensions of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), taking orders directly from Tehran.
Israel Daily has spoken to sources within Iraq who confirmed that Iranian commanders have instructed militia forces to enter a state of readiness. According to these sources, “The Iranian regime is coordinating directly with militia leaders in Iraq. Orders have come down to prepare for escalation — not just in rhetoric, but on the ground.”
This development aligns with the warnings in our earlier report, “Israel Should Not Ignore the Threat from Iranian-Backed Militias in Iraq,” where military expert Emely Israelsson wrote:
“These militias are not just a local problem. They can easily attack Israeli targets or our allies. This threat must be taken seriously before it’s too late.”
Until now, Israel’s strategic focus has been on the northern front with Hezbollah in Lebanon and the southern threat from Hamas in Gaza. However, experts caution that ignoring the eastern front — particularly Iranian operations in Iraq — could prove dangerously shortsighted.
Iran’s strategy relies heavily on its proxies. Iraq has become a critical hub for Tehran’s regional operations: a place to smuggle weapons, train fighters, and plan future attacks. The militias are well-armed, battle-hardened, and deeply loyal to the Iranian leadership — not the Iraqi government.
One Israeli defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated:
“Iran doesn't move pieces without a purpose. These preparations are part of a broader plan to activate pressure on Israel from multiple directions. It’s no longer a question of if, but when.”
With increased coordination between Iran and its Iraqi proxies, the likelihood of a surprise attack or coordinated strike involving these militias has grown. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are now reassessing eastern vulnerabilities and possible preemptive strategies to counter this emerging threat.
Israel Daily will continue to monitor this development and provide updates as the situation unfolds. One thing remains clear — Iran’s reach has expanded deeper into Iraq, and its grip on the region’s proxy forces tightens. Israel must be ready.
