In a region plagued by authoritarianism, propaganda, and a disregard for human rights, one country stands out for its commitment to democratic values and the sanctity of civilian life: Israel.

The October 7, 2023 massacre committed by Hamas was not just a brutal terror attack—it was a clear window into the moral chasm that separates Israel from its neighbors. And yet, billions of dollars are being spent by some Arab regimes to twist the narrative, fuel global misinformation campaigns, and portray Israel—the only democracy in the region—as the villain.

On October 7, over 1,200 Israelis were murdered in cold blood by Hamas terrorists who stormed into homes, burned families alive, raped women, and slaughtered children. The world saw the footage. It was real. It was raw. Yet, within days, online spaces were flooded with fabricated stories accusing Israel of genocide, often spread by state-sponsored media outlets from Arab countries and Iran.

The silence—or worse, justification—by some voices in the Arab world was deafening. But it was not surprising. Several regimes have long invested in shaping public opinion through controlled media. Billions of petrodollars have been funneled into online campaigns, paid influencers, and fake NGOs that paint Israel as an aggressor, while downplaying or denying the barbarity of groups like Hamas or Hezbollah.

What these propaganda machines deliberately ignore is Israel’s unique military doctrine—the Doctrine of Purity of Arms, which emphasizes minimizing harm to civilians, even when it compromises military success. Israel sends leaflets, makes phone calls, and "roof knocks" (firing a small, non-lethal warning shot) before targeting terrorist infrastructure embedded among civilians. No other country in the Middle East—or perhaps the world—goes to such lengths.

Hamas, by contrast, uses civilians as human shields. They hide weapons in schools, hospitals, and mosques. They fire rockets from densely populated areas and forbid civilians from evacuating when Israel warns of incoming strikes.

Israel’s Iron Dome doesn't just protect its own civilians—it minimizes the need for massive retaliatory destruction. But when forced to act, Israel targets terrorists, not civilians.

Let’s compare. When Syria’s Assad regime faced opposition, it responded with chemical weapons, barrel bombs, and the complete leveling of cities like Aleppo. Iran crushes internal dissent by shooting protesters in the streets. Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen has caused one of the worst humanitarian crises of the decade, with little regard for civilian life.

These regimes don’t send leaflets. They don’t warn. They erase.

Yet, ironically, it’s Israel that faces accusations of genocide—an absurd claim contradicted by every credible war ethics analysis and independent investigation. In Gaza, population growth continues at one of the fastest rates in the world. A "genocide" that results in a growing population? The logic doesn’t add up.

The international media is being manipulated. Social media platforms are being flooded with deepfakes, staged photos, and AI-generated content paid for by oil-rich countries with an interest in demonizing Israel and distracting from their own crimes. They fund outlets and influencers who repeat slogans without facts and statistics without sources.

But the truth cannot be buried forever. The world must ask: What kind of military warns civilians before a strike? What kind of country opens its hospitals to wounded enemies? What democracy would air-drop aid to civilians while its soldiers are being killed by the same regime that controls those civilians?

Only one country in the Middle East fits this description. That country is Israel.

The Middle East is full of complexity, but one truth remains clear: Israel is not perfect, but it is exceptional. Exceptional in its democratic values. Exceptional in its care for civilian life. And exceptional in its restraint, even when faced with unspeakable terror.

Let us not allow billions in propaganda to distort the truth. Let us stand with the one nation in the region that does everything it can—not to kill civilians—but to spare them.
