Israeli Man Indicted for Spying for Iran
An Israeli citizen has been charged with spying for Iran, in a case that has shocked the country.
Last Wednesday, the State Prosecutor's Office filed a serious indictment in the Central District Court in Lod. The man is accused of contacting a foreign agent and giving secret information to an enemy. If found guilty, he could face life in prison.
Met Iranian Agents in Turkey
The indictment says that the man had a long relationship with an Iranian woman living in Iran. In 2024, during the war between Israel and the Iranian regime, he traveled to Turkey. There, he met his partner and two members of Iran's regime. He knew they were enemies of Israel.
After the meeting, he kept in touch with an Iranian agent on Telegram. Sometimes he even contacted the agent on his own to give him information.
What He Shared
The man is accused of sharing very sensitive information, including:
The name of an Iranian sailor who had helped Israel in secret.
Information about Israeli plans to attack Iran.
Flight paths of Israeli drones (UAVs) going to Iran.
Confirmation that an Israeli Air Force base was hit by Iran.
Danger to National Security
Prosecutors say the man knew exactly what he was doing. They say he wanted to hurt Israelu2019s security. Because of the ongoing war with Iran and attacks from Iranian territory, they want the court to keep him in jail until the end of the trial.
Part of a Bigger Problem
This is not the first time Israel has caught spies linked to Iran. In the past two years:
A group of immigrants from Azerbaijan were paid to spy for Iran.
Two young IDF soldiers were arrested for helping Iran. One gave information about the Iron Dome. The other spread pro-Iran messages and graffiti.
Security officials are warning the public to stay alert and report anything suspicious.
